Who can receive a grant
For work in Hertfordshire and the UK, most of the organisations that we make grants to will be registered charities. However we will also consider applications from organisations that are delivering work which is legally charitable.
For overseas work, we will only make grants to UK registered charities but seek those whose activities are strengthening the capacity of local NGO's.
Duration
Duration of grants
Most grants will be for one or two years, though in certain circumstances a grant may be made over three years.
Reapplication
If your application is unsuccessful, you may reapply after 12 months.
For successful applicants, once two years funding (three years when this is awarded in one grant) has been received and completed, 12 months must elapse before a further application is made.
Grant size
The majority of grants will be between £5,000 and £30,000. Trustees may occasionally agree a grant up to £50,000
Core/project funding
We fund specific projects but will also consider core funding
Time it takes to consider applications
We aim to respond to the Stage 1 Application Form within a month. At this point some applicants will be asked to submit a fuller proposal.
Trustees meet 4 times a year to consider these and we aim to communicate a decision within 4 months of the Stage 2 proposal being received.
Exclusions
We do not fund:
- Individuals
- Projects in the Middle East, Eastern Europe or the countries of the ex Soviet Union
- In line with Sylvia Adams request, we do not fund work that solely benefits elderly people
- For similar reasons we do not fund work to organisations helping animals, medical research or environmental causes
